Charlie Lindgren Goes All Out With New Capitals Mask For 2024-25 Season; Signature Quote On Backplate Carries Deep Meaning

The Capitals netminder's mask is a tribute to his team, his goalie pads and his native USA.

Charlie Lindgren is gearing up for his third season with the Washington Capitals, and he has a new goalie mask ready to go.

Lindgren again got his mask designed by DaveArt for this upcoming campaign, and it features his signature look while also paying homage to D.C. and his native United States.

Here's a look at the helmet, as posted by DaveArt on Instagram. DaveArt called the mask "a rollercoaster of detail work in total 3D."

Lindgren's mask has his classic "iceberg" pattern on both sides, which pays tribute to the pattern he regularly wears on his goalie pads. The "Weagle" is also featured on both sides and repeated across the entirety of the mask. On the chin is his nickname, "Lindy" (though his teammates call him "Chucky") with the team logo underneath. The Weagle is also imprinted across the entirety of the mask.

At the top of the helmet is the American flag, a homage to his American upbringing. Lindgren is a native of Lakeville, Minnesota, and he represented Team USA at the IIHF World Championship this summer.

The back of Lindgren's mask has yet to be seen, but it can be assumed it will have the same famous Og Mandino quote that he has gotten on the back of his mask for years: "I will persist until I succeed. I was not delivered into this world into defeat, nor does failure course my veins. I am not a sheep waiting to be prodded by my shepherd. I am a lion, and I refuse to talk, walk and to sleep with the sheep. I will persist until I succeed."

Lindgren's spirit animal is, fittingly, the lion.

"I'm capable of doing a lot of big things, and that's kind of the way I look at it. Certainly lions, they're big, physical. I mean, am I big and physical? I mean, maybe not, but I think it's more the mentality," Lindgren told The Hockey News. "No one wants to mess with a lion. Throughout my career, I've been through a bunch of adversity, but it's never stopped me. I've kept on pushing and I think I'm a hard guy to knock down."

Washington opens training camp on Sept. 19.
