Matt Roy Injury Update: Capitals Defenseman Listed As Day-To-Day

The Washington Capitals got a somewhat encouraging update on Matt Roy on Monday, as the defenseman has officially been listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

Roy did not skate on Monday and will miss a "decent amount of time" for the Capitals.

With Roy out, Dylan McIlrath will suit up in his place.

Roy was hurt in the second period of the Capitals' season opener, a 5-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils. It's unclear exactly what happened, but he left the game after skating just 8:39 minutes and did not return.

The 29-year-old blueliner was a minus-2 and had two shots in his Washington debut while skating on the second defensive pairing with Martin Fehervary.

Roy signed a six-year deal to join the Capitals this offseason and is going to be a huge part of the blue line as a reliable, shutdown right-handed defenseman who can log big minutes and also contribute offensively.
