The Washington Capitals will not be represented at the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off.

Washington did not have any players named to Team USA, Canada or Sweden, and there are no Finnish players in the organization.

Dylan Strome, Tom Wilson, John Carlson, Rasmus Sandin and Logan Thompson were all potential names that could have been selected. Jakob Chychrun was also a potential option for the Americans.

Strome is tied for fifth in NHL scoring right now, and Wilson had reportedly been garnering interest from Team Canada. Instead, Canada went for different names up front.

Thompson, who is one of the league leaders in goals saved above expected, was also rumored to be one of the three potential netminders to suit up. Jordan Binnington, Sam Montembeault and Adin Hill will be Canada's goaltenders.

Carlson was also said to be a possible defensive selection, but Noah Hanifin made the cut instead.

The Capitals currently lead the Eastern Conference and Metropolitan Division.

While it's disappointing to not have anyone representing the team at 4 Nations, it will allow the team more time to rest and rejuvenate during the break.

The 4 Nations Face-Off will take place from Feb. 12 to Feb. 20.
