ARLINGTON, V.A. — After impressing and picking up some wisdom in his first NHL training camp, Washington Capitals prospect Andrew Cristall is headed back to juniors.
Washington assigned Cristall to his WHL club, the Kelowna Rockets, on Friday to trim their training camp roster to 50.
Cristall made his NHL preseason debut on Thursday, notching an assist on the power play and showcasing his quick hands and playmaking ability in a 4-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings.
More time in the WHL will allow Cristall to continue to develop and gain confidence while also working on his skating. Management has already cited an improvement for the 18-year-old, but wants to see him continue to get better when it comes to his stride, speed and movement.
Cristall was taken 40th overall in the 2023 NHL Draft and was one of the standout prospects at the team's rookie camp and start of main camp.
The Capitals' training camp roster now sits at 50 skaters.
