Spencer Carbery is reportedly among those up next for an interview, per The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun.

At the 2023 NHL Draft Lottery, general manager Brian MacLellan said that the Washington Capitals' head coaching search was "just beginning," and now, it appears things are starting to pick up.
Washington's search is reportedly gaining traction, as the team is preparing to interview another familiar face and has other candidates emerging as well.
Per The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun, the Capitals have requested to interview current Toronto Maple Leafs assistant Spencer Carbery for the head coaching vacancy now that the Leafs' season is over following their second-round exit at the hands of the Florida Panthers. There is still interest in DMV native, alum and current Tampa Bay Lightning assistant coach Jeff Halpern, who's also getting an interview.
The race won't just come down to those two assistants, though. LeBrun also wrote that the Capitals have already interviewed other candidates for the job, and that it is by no means a "two-person field."
Washington parted ways with head coach Peter Laviolette back on April 14 after the former bench boss requested a morning meeting with Brian MacLellan, where the two agreed not to work out another deal. Assistants Blaine Forsythe and Kevin McCarthy are also not returning, while Scott Allen, Scott Murray, Emily Engel-Natzke and Brett Leonhardt will remain on staff.
There are several names on the market, including Gerard Gallant, who recently parted ways with the New York Rangers.
MacLellan has plenty of time and is likely not in any rush. The decision will be one made thoroughly with the team trying to get younger and faster while still relying on the veteran core. He also said the team isn't necessarily focused on experience.
