The Washington Capitals are out west and officially kicking off their road swing against the San Jose Sharks on Monday, and they had to make some roster moves to accommodate for the return of one of their key defensemen.

Washington activated defenseman Martin Fehervary from the injured reserve, and he will be back in the lineup for Monday's tilt. To open a roster spot to allow for Fehervary's return, T.J. Oshie has been placed on IR.

Monday will mark Fehervary's first game since Nov. 10, when he suffered a lower-body injury while defending the net front in a 4-2 win over the New Jersey Devils. The Slovak blueliner has missed the last five games, leaving a tough void for the Capitals to fill with their top-pairing defenseman on the shelf.

This will be the first time this season that Washington will have all six of its regular defensemen healthy and in the lineup at the same time.

As for Oshie, he did not make the trip out west and is at home recovering from an upper-body injury he suffered in Friday's 5-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers. The 36-year-old was skating into the offensive zone when he collided with Mattias Ekholm, leaving him down on the ice for a few moments before he was helped down the tunnel.

With Oshie out, Matthew Phillips will draw in up front in his place, while Hendrix Lapierre will also dress with Connor McMichael moving to the wing. Nicolas Aube-Kubel is the healthy scratch, and Darcy Kuemper will be between the pipes.

Puck drop is at 10:30 p.m. at SAP Center.
