The Washington Capitals returned home to Arlington and got back to work on Monday following a rough go-of-it up north, and they'll see another slight change as they take on the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday.
Washington kept its forward lines intact, but on the blue line, things changed big time as Rasmus Sandin and John Carlson are no longer working together on the top pairing.
Martin Fehervary was moved up to work with Carlson, his longtime defensive partner, while Sandin shifted down to operate alongside Trevor van Riemsdyk. Meanwhile, Nick Jensen went back to the third pairing and was paired with Alex Alexeyev, who drew in for Hardy Häman Aktell. The Swede, who made his NHL debut on Saturday, was working on an extra pairing with Lucas Johansen.
Here were the full combinations, per Monumental Sports Network's Tarik El-Bashir:
Alex Ovechkin-Dylan Strome-Matthew Phillips
Connor McMichael-Evgeny Kuznetsov-T.J. Oshie
Sonny Milano-Nicklas Backstrom-Tom Wilson
Beck Malenstyn-Aliaksei Protas-Anthony Mantha
Martin Fehervary-John Carlson
Rasmus Sandin-Trevor van Riemsdyk
Alex Alexeyev-Nick Jensen
Hardy Häman Aktell-Lucas Johansen
Darcy Kuemper
Clay Stevenson
Nic Dowd and Charlie Lindgren remain out with upper-body injuries, though Lindgren took the ice before practice for some individual work. Joel Edmundson has also gotten some work in ahead of practices skating with the team, though he remains in a non-contact sweater as he recovers from hand surgery. Max Pacioretty, who is still recovering from a torn Achilles, has yet to skate with the club.
Washington takes on Toronto at 6 p.m. ET on Monday at Capital One Arena.
