The Washington Capitals officially have their draft position, as they will select 17th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft in Vegas in June.
Washington's first-round sweep at the hands of the New York Rangers ensures the 17th selection, which is the first selection following the lottery.
Beyond the first round, Washington also owns one second-round pick (No. 52 acquired from Vegas Golden Knights), three third-round picks (No. 82, No. 83 acquired from New York Islanders, No. 91 acquired from Boston Bruins), one fourth-round pick (No. 114), one fifth-round pick (No. 146) and one sixth-round pick (No. 178).
General manager Brian MacLellan can use to acquire a name out of a relatively strong draft class as he looks to address the team's need for offense and more support for years to come.
The Capitals are looking to the future and could use their pick to get a rising name to add to an already talented pool of prospects, which includes Ryan Leonard, Andrew Cristall, Ivan Miroshnichenko and more.
Some names to watch at this year's draft include Igor Chernyshov, Berkly Catton, Beckett Sennecke and Adam Jiricek, among others. The Hockey News will take an in-depth look at potential picks leading up to draft day.
The draft will take place in the Sphere from June 28-29.
