The Capitals winger left Friday's game after taking a bump from Mattias Ekholm.
WASHINGTON — Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery had some tough news on the injury front following the team's 5-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers, as T.J. Oshie will not be joining the team on the upcoming road trip.
Carbery said that Oshie will not travel to California for the next slate of games for the Capitals due to an upper-body injury he sustained early in the second period on Friday.
Oshie was entering the offensive zone when he took an open-ice hit from Mattias Ekholm. There was no call on the play, though Oshie did not have possession of the puck.
The 36-year-old went down in visible pain and stayed down while athletic trainer Jason Serbus came out to attend to him. After a few minutes, he was helped to his feet, and then helped to the bench and down the tunnel.
In 16 games this season, Oshie has one goal and one assist. He had ended a 19-game goal drought back on Wednesday against the Buffalo Sabres.
Being without Oshie will hurt, as the team is still struggling to find offense at even strength and on the power play, which is 0-for-28 over the last 10 games.
With Oshie out, expect Matthew Phillips or Hendrix Lapierre to draw back into the mix.
