The Capitals alternate captain was skating in front of the net when he took a Jakob Chychrun shot to the left side of his face.
Tom Wilson has left Saturday's contest against the Montreal Canadiens early in the first period after taking a shot to the face.
Wilson was skating in front of the net when he took a shot from Jakob Chychrun to the left side of his face. He remained conscious and on his feet after the shot, but immediately grabbed his face in pain.
Play was immediately blown dead as Wilson went to the bench to speak with athletic trainer Jason Serbus. He then left the ice quickly and made his way down the tunnel under his own power.
Wilson missed a good chunk of the period, but ultimately returned near the end of the first with a big, red mark on his face.
Having Wilson back on the ice is a great sign, as losing him would be difficult with Alex Ovechkin already on the shelf. Wilson has six points in his last six games and has 20 points through 26 games so far this season.
