ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals got a plethora of injury updates on Tuesday, and the biggest blow is upfront regarding forward Tom Wilson.
Wilson is officially day-to-day with an upper-body injury and is not taking part in Tuesday's practice.
The 29-year-old injured his nose and was left bloodied after colliding with Alex Laferriere and taking a stick to the face late in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Kings. He had returned to finish that game but was still bleeding in the locker room after the win.
Also not practicing for the Capitals is Alex Ovechkin, who is taking a maintenance day. He had been a game-time decision back on Sunday after being banged up in a collision with Jordan Staal back on Friday, but he ended up playing and picking up an assist.
Rasmus Sandin, meanwhile, saw his status change, as he went from dealing with an illness to being day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
Despite the tough breaks on the injury front, the Capitals got a positive sign as T.J. Oshie has made his way back to D.C. after returning home to Minnesota for treatment to address an upper-body injury.
Oshie took the ice for some work with the group on Tuesday as he continues his recovery from an upper-body injury. He was in a regular jersey and was in high spirits.
While it’s a positive sign to see Oshie back on the ice, it remains unclear what his exact timetable is with regard to a return to game action. He has not played since Dec. 16.
In other news, Sonny Milano is still skating in a non-contact jersey, though head coach Spencer Carbery said recently he is not close and that his status is week-to-week. Charlie Lindgren is also still skating as he gets closer to returning from an upper-body injury that has held him out since Dec. 29, when he was hurt in the opening minutes of a 5-1 loss to the New York Islanders.
