Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson has his 2024 NHL All-Star Game team, as he was taken later in the draft by Team MacKinnon.
Team MacKinnon used their seventh pick to take Wilson, with the squad citing its need for a physical presence.
"They're saying we need to add some grit," singer Tate McRae said.
Wilson joins Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar, Minnesota Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov, Carolina Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho, Avalanche goaltender Alexandar Georgiev, Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman, Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konecny. Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Lindholm and Seattle Kraken forward Olivier Bjorkstrand on Team MacKinnon.
This is Wilson's second NHL All-Star Game appearance. He has the fastest goal in NHL All-Star Game history, as he scored just 13 seconds into the 2022 3-on-3 tournament.
Wilson is a pretty solid pickup for Team MacKinnon and brings plenty to the table. He brings physicality and grit, and he leads the Capitals with 24 drawn penalties so far this season. The 29-year-old is also one of just four players with at least 10 goals (12) and over 100 hits (189), and he is on pace for his fourth 20-goal season.
"Need someone to fight Brady Tkachuk," the commentator quipped.
This is the first time in 13 years that the NHL has held a player draft to determine the All-Star team rosters. Back in 2011, Alex Ovechkin was part of the draft and went second-to-last after trying to drop all the way to last place in order to win a car.
