WASHINGTON — Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery did express concern for Trevor van Riemsdyk, as the defeneseman was injured near the end of regulation in Sunday's 4-3 preseason loss to the Buffalo Sabres.

Carbery provided an update on van Riemsdyk, who left Sunday's game after blocking. shot with his right hand/wrist late in the third period.

"[There's] definitely concern, but he'll be evaluated tomorrow and then we'll find out," Carbery said. "I don't have any indication that it's bad; just any time a veteran player leaves the game, as a coach, it's not great."

After sustaining the injury, van Riemsdyk stayed on the ice to finish out his shift but did not put his hand back on his stick. Zach Benson would go on to score, and after the goal, van Riemsdyk went right down the tunnel.

Vincent Iorio ended up stepping up to make up for the veteran blueliner's absence and led Washington with 24:36 minutes in the defeat.

The Capitals will be off on Monday before returning to MedStar Capitals Iceplex for more training camp on Tuesday.
