New details in the Alex Galchenyuk case reveal that he threatened to kill an officer and his family while being arrested after a hit and run.
New details continue to emerge following Alex Galchenyuk's arrest in Scottsdale and subsequent contract termination, and the police report indicates that the ex-Arizona Coyotes forward threatened the lives of an officer and family.
Editor's Note: The following report may be emotionally disturbing to readers.
Per a Scottsdale Police Department report obtained by The Athletic and other publications, Galchenyk allegedly threatened to kill an officer and his wife and daughter and make a phone call to Russia to have their wife and daughter's kidneys "cut out."
"I'm gonna chop you and your daughter," Galchenyuk allegedly said, per the report. "Let me go, or I will make one phone call. You'll never see your family, how scary is that? One phone call, and you're all dead. Your whole family, your bloodline is dead."
The 29-year-old also repeated a racial slur on his way to jail. He was released the following day under his own recognizance and arraigned on Monday.
Galchenyuk was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin but spent most of his childhood in Russia; his parents are from Belarus.
He was arrested on multiple charges, including private property hit and run and disorderly conduct on July 9. Per the report, a witness said that a white BMW crashed into a curb and sign, and Galchenyuk was found on the ground close to the car. He and a driver then left the scene but were pulled over and found to be intoxicated.'
The Coyotes officially terminated Galchenyk's contract on Friday after he cleared unconditional waivers. They also released a statement on the matter.
"We are aware of the incident involving Alex Galchenyuk and strongly condemn this type of behavior," the team said. "Once the Club was made aware of the allegations, we immediately began the process of terminating his standard player's contract through the proper channels in conjunction with the National Hockey League."
Galchenyuk, the third overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft, played in just 11 NHL games for the Colorado Avalanche last season, going without a point and posting a plus-minus of minus-8. He had 42 points in 42 games with the team's AHL-affiliate Eagles.
