ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals have reportedly made their first move on NHL Trade Deadline day, acquiring Anthony Beauvillier from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Washington's second-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
The Capitals still own the Boston Bruins' 2025 second-round pick, which will be higher than D.C.'s original selection.
Beauvillier can play both center and wing has been playing on the Penguins' second line this season. He has 13 goals and seven assists for 20 points through 63 games this season.
The 27-year-old brings quite a bit of versatility to the table, and he takes good care of the puck. Beauvillier thrives thanks to his high hockey IQ, quick hands and skating ability, though he needs to find more consistency in his game.
As history would have it, Spencer Carbery has proven to be a strong coach able to get the most out of up-and-coming players, and he could be the perfect fit for Beauvillier, who has shown potential to be a top contributor at the highest level.
Beauvillier can draw in on the middle-6 and possibly bring more chemistry at 5-on-5, and there's also the potential that he could be utilized on the power play.
