WASHINGTON — For T.J. Oshie, Sunday's pregame ceremony commemorating 1,000 NHL games was made even sweeter by a dominant win for the Washington Capitals, who are back in the playoffs after topping the Winnipeg Jets, 3-0.
Here's what Alex Ovechkin, T.J. Oshie and John Carlson had to say about the dominant win.
On if he ever had doubts about reaching 1,000 NHL games: "Yeah. There was a couple different instances where I thought maybe getting to this point was in jeopardy but through phenomenal support at home from my wife and kids and close friends, through my chiro in Minny, the chiro along the way on the road trip last week — a couple different ones — training staff, teammates, everything, they all made this possible for me. It was a tough road and no way I could have gotten here alone."
On getting the win after his ceremony: "We're gonna go celebrate here in a little bit so I'm gonna have the squad out for some celebration. When you have milestones, this is my only one, this stuff doesn't happen often, but I did worry that maybe with a day game, ceremony that the boys were gonna come out maybe a little loose or maybe not as focused as we wanted to be. Not gonna say we definitely weren't that, but we found a way to get the job done and get a massive two points. That was my message to them before the game is how much I absolutely appreciate all this stuff but we need to get a win, that is focus number one. So we got it done."
On his hot streak: "How I said I think right now you can see how we play. I think everybody have confidence, everybody understand the situation and how I said a couple days ago, that's why we fight all year, in training camp, and we finish the season in two weeks, we want to keep playing."
On turning things around: "I don't know. Puck goes in, find a way to find the shooting lanes and sticks."
On the team's current run: "It's a blast. You never take it for granted these situations. We're laying it on the line and it's great for guys to come together. This push is huge. Like I said last game, it's far from over and we got a lot more work to do."
