The Capitals' eighth-overall pick in 2023 put on a show in a 6-1 win over Michigan Tech.

The Washington Capitals saw top prospect Ryan Leonard put on a show on Friday, as his four-point showing powered the Boston College Eagles to the NCAA Regional Final.

Leonard had two goals and two assists en route to a dominant 6-1 victory over the Michigan Tech Huskies to help the Eagles move forward in the NCAA Tournament.

The game marked Leonard's seventh multi-point game of the season and sixth multi-assist game of the year.

Leonard was all over the ice, showcasing his speed, strength and wicked shot. He also got to the high-danger areas and drew some penalties, all while playing the same gritty style and displaying the personality that also won him gold at the World Juniors this year.

Through 58 games with Boston College this season, the Amherst, Massachusetts native has 29 goals and 29 assists for 58 points.

Washington selected Leonard eighth overall in the 2023 NHL Draft. This is his freshman NCAA season, but it looks like his collegiate career could be sooner rather than later, with the pro jump looking more and more likely.

Still, Leonard isn't focused on the future, prioritizing his experience and performance with the Eagles.

If the Capitals make the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Leonard finishes his run, one would have to wonder if the team would sign him to an entry-level contract to have him join the team.

Though he's just 19, he's shown that he has the size, speed and physicality to keep up, and it could help him continue growing at the highest level. However, proper development is important, and the ball is in Leonard's court regarding his next move. And if he wants to continue the NCAA experience, he is free to do so.
