Per The Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, the Capitals center is expected to “generate significant interest” at the trade deadline.
The Washington Capitals are still pondering their approach to the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, but one name on the roster expected to bring in several phone calls is Nic Dowd.
Per The Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, Dowd is expected to “generate significant interest” at the deadline.
Dowd has seven goals and six assists for 13 points in 33 games so far this season and eight points in his last 13 games overall. He has not only helped drive offense, but is also one of the top defensive centers in the league and drives one of the league’s top fourth lines.
The 33-year-old is also a reliable penalty killer and face-off man, and he’s built a reputation as a highly coachable player with a relentless motor and impressive work ethic.
Dowd has one year remaining on his contract at $1.3 million.
Washington is still evaluating its trade deadline approach and whether or not it will be a buyer or seller in the coming weeks. The Capitals sit five points out of a playoff spot and are in the throes of a season-deciding road trip where they've gone 0-3, with each loss coming in regulation.
Losing Dowd would hurt, taking away a reliable and consistent center who plays several roles. However, he would likely bring in a big return as the team looks toward building for the future, and it would benefit the club if it elects to sell.
The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline is on March 8 at 3 p.m. ET.
