Geoff Burke - USA TODAY Sports - T.J. Oshie Has Iconic Reaction To Tom Wilson's New Contract With Capitals: 'Suck It To The Rest Of The League'

ARLINGTON, V.A. -- The Washington Capitals were more than happy to sign Tom Wilson to a long-term extension that basically ensures he will spend the remainder of his career in D.C. -- and so was T.J. Oshie.

The 36-year-old took to social media to celebrate his fellow right wing's new seven-year, $45.5 million deal, and he didn't hold back.

"Right side!!!! Congrats on seven more years Tom Wilson! Not many I've seen with the same amount of heart and love for his teammates and his organization and his fans," Oshie wrote on Instagram. "This guy leaves everything on the ice every night, leads by example and protects his own. Earned his spot on the team from fighting and penalty killing and tough minutes to top line, power play and scoring big goals."

Wilson is a three-time 20-goal scorer who broke out with a career-high 24 goals, 28 assists and 52 points in 2021-22, where he was also named to the Metro Division All-Star team. He had 22 points in 33 games this past season, and if not for injury, he would have been on pace for 54 points.

Oshie continued with a huge compliment to Wilson's character.

"I hope my son grows up to be a lot like Tom," Oshie wrote. "Good work, Mac, 'cause I'd of given him $10 million."

Wilson's new contract carries an AAV of $6.5 million and lasts through 2030-31. He is also more than likely to be the next captain when Alex Ovechkin retires.

Regardless, No. 77 is excited for Wilson to stick around, and he had one last message to the rest of the NHL following the announcement of Thursday's deal.

"Suck it to the rest of the league because #43 is here to stay!! Love ya bro," he wrote.
