Per The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun, Pacioretty could waive his NMC with the Capitals to go to a contender.
The Washington Capitals are getting closer to the trade deadline, and the mindset appears to be heading in the direction of selling with the team in the throes of a six-game losing streak and not getting closer to a playoff spot.
If they sell, they could look to get some of their pending unrestricted free agents off the books, and that includes winger Max Pacioretty.
Per The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun, Pacioretty is a potential name that could draw interest, and he could end up waiving his full no-move clause to make it happen.
"My sense is, for the right fit and a chance to chase a Cup, he might waive," LeBrun wrote.
Pacioretty, who signed a one-year, $2 million deal to join D.C. in July, recently returned from a re-torn Achilles that held him out for nearly a year. Through 14 games, Pacioretty had one goal and six assists for seven points, and he has been playing top-6 minutes while getting some power-play time.
The 35-year-old would be a good asset if the Capitals do elect to sell. He still has offensive prowess and a wicked shot, and he has shown that he can still produce at a top level and maintain consistency.
Washington currently sits seven points out of a Wild Card spot, and the next few games will be critical in deciding the direction the team goes in. However, it looks like that'll be another sale, and Pacioretty could get a decent return on the trade market if he chooses to waive his NMC.
