Ultimately, though, he wanted more of a chance, and knowing he wouldn't get it in Nevada, requested a trade. "I knew it was a big risk leaving Vegas and what they had going on there, but I just wanted a different opportunity," Thompson said, adding, "I couldn't be more happy that I ended up with this organization." General manager Chris Patrick said the organization has been thrilled with Thompson's play as he's established himself as "one of the top goaltenders in the NHL." The feeling is mutual for Thompson, who has enjoyed every second since being traded to D.C. this summer. "I'm really happy to be here for many more years to come," Thompson said.
