WASHINGTON — The Washington Capitals are looking to get back into the win column after dropping the last two and six of the last seven overall, but it'll be a tall task as they may have to face the high-flying Los Angeles Kings without the services of Alex Ovechkin.
Here is everything to know before puck drop at 3 p.m. ET at Capital One Arena, where Ovechkin is a genuine game-time decision.
Ovechkin took rushes in warmup and appears set to go against the Kings, so the team will stick with its usual combinations and run 12 forwards and six defensemen.
Darcy Kuemper will get the start with Charlie Lindgren still out, and Hunter Shepard will back up.
Here are the line combinations based on warmups.:
Alex Ovechkin-Evgeny Kuznetsov-Tom Wilson
Max Pacioretty-Dylan Strome-Hendrix Lapierre
Aliaksei Protas-Connor McMichael-Anthony Mantha
Beck Malenstyn-Nic Dowd-Nicolas Aube-Kubel
Martin Fehervary-John Carlson
Trevor van Riemsdyk-Nick Jensen
Joel Edmundson-Ethan Bear
- Ovechkin is a game-time decision after colliding with Jordan Staal late in Friday's loss.
- Lindgren remains on injured reserve as he continues to work his way back from an upper-body injury. He has been out since Dec. 29.
- Sandin remains out with illness.
- T.J. Oshie is back home in Minnesota to receive treatment for an upper-body injury. His timeline appears longer now.
- Sonny Milano has been skating in a non-contact jersey, but is still not close and remains week-to-week.
- John Carlson has points in back-to-back games and hit the 500-assist mark on Friday.
- Nic Dowd has points in three of his last four outings.
- Ovechkin is on a four-game point streak.
- Beck Malesntyn has points in back-to-back outings.
The game will be live on Monumental Sports Network.
