The Winnipeg Jets will "probably" welcome back Josh Morrissey tonight for Game 2 against the Dallas Stars.
HC Scott Arniel spoke to the media following this morning's skate and answered a question about Morrissey's availability tonight with a smile, saying he'll "probably" play.
Both the Jets and Stars were missing their No.1 defenseman in Game 1, and luckily for the Jets, they'll be adding theirs back to the lineup, unlike the Stars. Morrissey was a full participant in practice today, skating alongside Dylan DeMelo in line rushes and resuming his duties as the quarterback on the Jets' first power play unit.
The Jets need speed to mitigate the pace the Stars play at, and Morrissey's excellent skating should help to do so.
Additionally, the Jets have elected to run Haydn Fleury and Colin Miller together on their third pairing. The pairing will replace Luke Schenn and Logan Stanley, as the two towering defensemen will be healthy scratches.
Game 1 was highlighted by the Jets' inability to slow down Mikko Rantanen. The 28-year-old has scored hat-tricks in back-to-back games and currently leads the playoffs in goals and points.
The importance of tonight's game cannot be understated. Heading into Dallas down 2-0 in the series could be a near-insurmountable deficit to erase. The Jets have struggled on the road in the postseason, and a loss tonight would mean the Jets would have to win all three road games to defeat the Stars.
