The Winnipeg Jets will be without forward David Gustafsson for the short-term future.
The Winnipeg Jets were without fourth-line forward David Gustafsson on Wednesday, after he did not skate with the group in its morning skate in Chicago.
Head coach Rick Bowness said Gustafsson would serve as a game-time decision on Wednesday, and sure enough, he was unable to go vs. the Blackhawks that evening.
Forward Dominic Toninato slotted in for Gustafsson, to whom the team said was dealing with a lower-body injury.
Coach Bowness was asked about Gustafsson's injury on Friday, to which he indicated that the bottom-six forward will miss more time.
“We don’t expect him to play this weekend," Bowness said.
“No," he said when asked if there had been a setback in his recovery. "He skated today earlier and he said it’s feeling a little bit better, but it’s not to the point where we’re comfortable letting him play.”
The lower-body injury suffered before Christmas came against the Bruins, and is expected to cost Gustafsson at least three games. Winnipeg next heads out on the road for a three-game stretch in California and Arizona over the next week.
Winnipeg next takes on Minnesota on Saturday afternoon, before travelling to Minnesota for the second game of the home-and-home on Sunday. The Jets then host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday before hitting the skies for the three-game road trip out west.
