Jets re-sign defenceman Dylan DeMelo following career season.

The Winnipeg Jets have re-signed defenceman Dylan DeMelo on a four-year deal.

On Tuesday, the team announced it had signed one of it's top-pair defenders for the coming four seasons.

It will cost Winnipeg just shy of $20 million over the next four years, but Norris Trophy candidate Josh Morrissey will have his steady and reliable partner at his side through the 2027-28 NHL season.

The 31-year-old DeMelo signed a deal worth $4.9 million annually, beginning this season, after putting up career highs in points (31) and assists (28).

The top-pair rearguard finished second in the NHL in plus minus (+46) last season and managed to suit up in all 82 games.

A product of London, ON., DeMelo has established his family in Winnipeg since coming over in a trade with the Ottawa Senators, and has another baby on the way.

DeMelo led all Winnipeg skaters in blocked shots (139) and short-handed minutes played per game (2:35).

Originally selected 179th overall in the sixth round of the 2011 NHL Draft by the San Jose Sharks, DeMelo has 17 goals, 144 points and 265 penalty minutes to his name in 554 career regular season games. He has another four assists and 16 penalty minutes in 29 postseason games.
