The Winnipeg Jets will turn to associate coach Scott Arniel for the short term future, as head coach Rick Bowness briefly steps away from the team.
On Tuesday, the club announced that Bowness has returned to Winnipeg to undergo a "minor medical procedure" and would miss action at least Tuesday night in New York, as the Jets take on the first-place Rangers.
The team says that Bowness will return to action once his condition shows improvement. There is not indication what may be of concern for the 69-year-old.
Bowness previously missed a full month of action from October 23 to November 24, after his wife Judy suffered a seizure. He spent the following month away from the club, and attending to his family's needs.
Arniel stepped in in his absence at that point and helped the Jets to a strong 9-2-2 record over the course of his time in charge.
Winnipeg is currently 43-19-5 on the season and takes on the 45-19-4 Rangers from Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night.
