On Tuesday, the Winnipeg Jets presented their newest contract signees Mark Scheifele and Connor Hellebuyck to the media at the hockey for all centre just west of town.

"I'm ready to be a Jet for life and bring a Cup to this city," Hellebuyck said proudly. "I truly believe that we can get it done here."

Having shocked the hockey world on Thanksgiving Monday with the spending of $119 million USD on a combined 14 more years of contract for the two studs, general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff was able to alleviate some wandering thoughts, while setting his team's focus on the season ahead.

"What they’ve committed to our organization speaks volumes as to what they want," Cheveldayoff said. "They want to win. Both of these players, both of these individuals have a unique desire to win, and they both want to win with the teammates they have here."

Scheifele, to whom the Jets made their very first draft selection ever back in 2011, made it clear that his intentions were always to remain in Winnipeg.

"There is nothing that I want more in this world than to win a Stanley Cup for the Winnipeg Jets," Scheifele said.

"Me and Connor are really competitive and we want to win a Cup here. We've had a lot of conversations with Chevy, with each other, with a lot of guys on the team and our goal here is to win. Obviously, this is a big step and I believe we have such a great team."

Scheifele, who led the Jets with 42 goals last season, is ready to continue serving Winnipeg through the 2030-31 NHL season.

"I have such tremendous friends, friends for life that are in that locker room," he said. "We want to win, we want to win a Cup in Winnipeg. There would be nothing more special than doing that. We know it takes a lot of hard work, but we have a lot of hard workers in that room, we have a lot of guys who eat, sleep and breathe Winnipeg Jet hockey, and that's all we want to do."

For Hellebuyck, the 2020 Vezina Trophy winner, the contract was a way of showing his appreciation to the organization for showing the same support in him that he has in himself.

"I want to thank you guys a lot for believing in me the way that I believe in myself," the Jets' goaltender said.

"It speaks a lot to the guys in the locker room," Hellebuyck continued. "We've said this since Day 1. We get along so well and this team meshes so well that if the guys around us know we care and truly believe in this city, I think that helps them really figure out where this team is going. That is one direction, to win a Cup. Once you have that direct line and that same goal, and you know everyone around you has a that same mentality, I think it speaks volumes to what you can achieve and get you to where you want to go."

It wasn't only the players who signed the deals chipping in either, as the team finished up its final skate before heading out to Calgary for opening night on Wednesday.

"To get it done right before the season, it sends a bolt of energy throughout the team," defenceman Josh Morrissey said when speaking of his excitement upon hearing of the two extensions.

He even managed to find a way to throw in a joke or two when putting in his bid to help keep the two on board the Jets' mothership.

"It's a dry cold," he laughed.

Scheifele, who said his focus remains on Wednesday night's game, spent Monday evening at teammate Dylan DeMelo's house for a family Thanksgiving dinner.

"It’s always business for me," he laughed. "I’m not much of a celebrator, I’m a pretty private guy. I just like to play hockey, play golf and workout. So I enjoyed my night."
