The Jets' play improved in the second period, outshooting the Red Wings 11-3 in the middle frame but trailed on the scoreboard 2-1. Alex DeBrincat regained the Red Wings' two-goal lead after he and Patrick Kane combined on a transition passing play. Nikolaj Ehlers brought the Jets back within one after he deflected a Neal Pionk point shot. Larkin added another into the Jets vacant goal to secure the two points for the Red Wings.
