The latest OHL player to commit to the NCAA continues the trend of overage players across the OHL committing to schools in the wake of the NCAA rule changes in October. McDonald, an Ottawa native, spent his first two years in the OHL playing for the Erie after they drafted him in the third round of the 2022 OHL U-18 Priority Selection. The Otters traded him to Owen Sound before the start of this season. With six goals and 14 assists in 43 games this year, McDonald's 20 points ties him for fifth in scoring on the Attack with Tristan Deslile. He's on pace to finish the season with 31 points.
