So for those wondering, Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff revealed on X that the Flames are considering keeping defenceman Rasmus Andersson.

According to Daily Faceoff's Anthony Di Marco (Via @FierySharky)

Now that I have had the time to mull it over, I believe it may not be worst idea to keep the Swedish defenceman around for a while longer.

In the 2024-25 season, the pairing of Andersson and Kevin Bahl produced the seventh-highest expected Goals For (xGF) and fourth-highest Shots For (SF) in the league for players with 200 or more minutes on the ice, according to Natural Stat Trick .

Andersson also ranked 22nd in shorthanded minutes on the ice during the penalty kill in the season and was top five in TOI on the team during the franchise's league-topping penalty kill run from March 26 to the end of the season on April 17.

During that time, he was also top five (along with MacKenzie Weegar) in most blocks in the league and fourth in the entire season overall. That is very important for a Calgary team that gave up the 11th-most shots on net throughout the season.

Furthermore, being a nine-year veteran in the NHL will only benefit young Zayne Parekh who is also a right shot like Andersson.

The 28-year-old is a fan favorite, a leader and a valuable asset for the Flames.

A contract extension might not be a bad idea.
