Forward Michael Brandsegg-Nygard has been recalled by the Detroit Red Wings from their AHL affiliate team, the Grand Rapids Griffins under emergency conditions.

The Red Wings came out of deadline day with 12 forwards rostered.

They acquired David Perron from the Ottawa Senators this week, but he’s still got time left in his recovery from a sports hernia surgery, so he remains on injured reserve.

Captain Dylan Larkin suffered a lower-body injury in the third period against the Florida Panthers on Friday and is expected to miss time.

With no more roster limit in effect, Detroit doesn't need to make a corresponding move, and since the 20-year-old Norwegian is an emergency recall, he does not count towards one of Red Wing’s five allotted post-deadline regular call ups.

With 37 points (16G, 21A) in 50 games, Brandsegg-Nygard is the second-highest scorer on the Griffins this season.

He has also played in nine games with Detroit this year, recording one assist.
