
Cleveland Monsters Captain Stefan Matteau has announced on Instagram that he is retiring from professional hockey.

In the post, he says, "After 13 seasons in professional hockey, I’ve made the difficult decision to retire. As hard as it is to step away from the game I love, nothing is more important to me than being healthy and able to play with my kids for many years to come."
Stefan, the son of long-time NHLer Stéphane Matteau, played a total of 92 NHL games, including 27 with the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he totaled 4 points. For his career, he had 11 points.
He made his living in the AHL, where he played 411 games. Matteau played two different stints with Cleveland, totaling 80 games played, including 14 playoff games. He had a stat line of 16g-25a-41p for the Monsters. For his career, he scored 76 goals and had 169 points.
Matteau was named the Captain for this past season for Cleveland.
