This summer, Spencer Lazary and I will continue our series with more potential free agent targets that could be on the market on July 1st.
Today, we talk about 18-year vet Claude Giroux.
Target: Claude Giroux - RW - Age: 37 - 18 Years Experience
Giroux spent the first 15 years of his career with the Philadelphia Flyers, where he would punish the Columbus Blue Jackets before being traded to the Florida Panthers in 2022. He then signed with the Ottawa Senators as a free agent later in 2022.
Stats
Giroux played in 81 games last season for Ottawa. He scored 15 goals and totaled 50 points in his 18th year. He chipped in 4 power-play goals and 18 power-play points as well. He is averaging 72 points per 82 games played for his career. He has amassed 1,115 points in 1,263 NHL games.
He has 101 playoff games to his name, scored 29 goals, and totaled 86 playoff points.
Previous Salary
Giroux signed a 3 year, $19,500,000 contract with a cap hit of $6,500,000 per season in 2022. Contract experts put his next deal at $5.2 million per season for two years.
Realistic Chances Of A Signing: Cold
If we're being honest, there's no shot the Blue Jackets make a run at a long-time vet like Claude Giroux. He's been a great player for a long time, but there's just no shot that Don Waddell goes after him.
He's been good for a young Ottawa team, and I would expect him to stay there.
