Where - Capital One Arena; Washington, DC
How to Watch - ESPN, Sportsnet, TVAS

The Carolina Hurricanes will look to steal another playoff road win tonight in Game 2 of their second-round series against the Washington Capitals.

The Canes pulled off a 2-1 overtime win on Tuesday thanks to a Jaccob Slavin goal, after rallying in the third period to tie the game.

The Hurricanes dominated the Capitals all night, essentially tripling them in shots on goal and shot attempts, while also outhitting them too.

It's going to be a tight series if Tuesday is anything to go off of, but I also expect a much better effort from Washington tonight than what they showed in Game 1.

While the Capitals may opt to change up their lines, the only question mark for Carolina is the status of Mark Jankowski, who left Game 1 early.

Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour said on Wednesday that the forward was doing better and is expected to be a game-time decision tonight.

Streaks

  • Jaccob Slavin (2g, 1a) has points in three straight games.
  • Dmitry Orlov (2a) and Logan Stankoven (1g, 1a) have points in back-to-back games.

Milestone Watch

  • Frederik Andersen passed Arturs Irbe for the second most postseason wins in franchise history, earning his 14th win Tuesday night.

Game Notes

  • The last two times these teams met in the postseason was 2019. Carolina qualified for the playoffs for the first time in nine years and Washington were the defending Cup champions. The Canes won the series in seven games.
  • While not too many players are left from either of those teams, what's notable is that two defensemen have now swapped places as Dmitry Orlov and Trevor van Riemsdyk will now be on separate sides of the series.
  • Jaccob Slavin (1g, 10pts in 8gp) and Jack Roslovic (2g, 4pts in 4gp) are all point-per-game players against Washington in the postseason.
  • Carolina killed all 15 New Jersey power play opportunities in Round 1, marking the first time in franchise history that the team has completed a playoff series without conceding a power play goal against.
