The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Boston Bruins 3-2 Thursday night thanks to a last-minute goal by Seth Jarvis.

The Bruins wound up getting Canes'd as they outshot Carolina 34-23 but lost due to some bad bounces.

After the game, Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour along with Sebastian Aho and Jarvis spoke with the media. Here's what they had to say:

    Rod Brind'Amour

On the game: It reminds me of a game we played not that long ago where we outchanced a team 2-1 and lost. It's gonna happen, but you need, in games where we don't have it, you need some individual efforts. Fishy on the first one, that was just 100% an individual effort and then I would say [Pyotr Kochetkov] all night, really, was the difference. We definitely have seen enough of that over the years the other way, so we needed that.

On Riley Stillman's status and the challenge of playing with only five defensemen: I think [he'll be okay moving forward]. Especially because it happened one shift in. That messes up the whole game. You're putting a little more stress on guys that aren't used to it and the pairs get a little mixed up. It's not ideal, that's for sure.

On if there will be a sense of clarity for the group once the trade deadline passes: There has to be. Every year we talk about it, but this one is just obviously much... because of certain circumstances and who we're talking about and everything. It'd be nice to just put it behind us here in a few hours.

On if he could see it weighing on Mikko Rantanen tonight: Yeah, I'm sure. It's been since he got here. It's been pretty tough. Tonight, I think was probably the toughest.

On Dmitry Orlov: He took the morning skate and he had a little tweak and didn't feel great. Went out for warmups and just felt like he couldn't go. I don't think it's anything serious.

On if he saw anything better out of the power play tonight: No. Definitely not.

On looking ahead to Sunday: I haven't even thought about that, to be honest. There's just way too much happening here, but you're right. We have a couple of tough games if you just look at who we're playing. They're all tough. But we played them not too long ago and it was a good game, but we didn't find a way to get enough action and goals. They're one of the best, if not the best, right now and it'll be a big challenge.

On if he can tell right away when Pyotr Kochetkov is dialed into a game: I don't know. You don't really know because he's active. Made some real good saves tonight obviously against a superstar player. That's the other part. You're giving up chances and you look up and it's the wrong guy every time. That was not great, but he obviously got us the two points.

On Brent Burns scoring three days before his 40th birthday: He's still going. That one was banked in off of someone, but that's what he does. He fires pucks to the net and I really think this year, he probably should have had a few more. He's had some of those that just haven't gone in, but he got a break tonight. That's the end of it. He's going to be 40? He doesn't look like it. He takes care of himself.

    Seth Jarvis

    On the game:
There's been a lot of games where we've thought we've played a lot better and haven't gotten the win, so that's nice that it kind of repaid us, but we know we have to play a lot better because that's not going to happen very often at all.

On what was going wrong for the team: A lot of it was with us. I think we were trying to find stuff that wasn't there. I think we weren't sticking to our guns. We had moments and times when we got the puck low and kind of controlled the game, but it was few and far between. Obviously they did do a good job pressuring us, but a lot of it was self-inflicted.

On Pyotr Kochetkov: PK played unbelievable. He was the reason we won that game, for sure. PK played great.

On his goal: I saw the stick break and it was just a matter of getting the puck. Confidence lately with shooting the puck hasn't been very high. I've had a lot of chances and haven't scored so it was nice to see one drop.

On what will be the key to getting the power play back on track: You could probably list just about everything. I mean, not giving up a lot of 2-on-1s would be a start. That's never good. I think just being connected. I mean, I feel like at times, when our power play is going well, the puck is moving, the people are moving and we're kind of making it difficult on the PK. It boils down to outworking them and that's where maybe we've struggled a little bit. Relying on our skill and not quite our work ethic.

On looking ahead: We know how tight the division is and the race for the playoffs so any points, any wins we can get is huge and to string a couple along will be good for our confidence. We're playing a real top team in Winnipeg coming up and we're going to have to flush this game and get right back to our ways.

On how difficult the game was with all the outside noise: It's tough. I wish I could say it isn't. It's hard on everybody. But we've got what? 24 hours until all of this is done. I think that's what a lot of people are waiting for. Just for the noise to be gone so we can really focus on ourselves. It's part of the job and part of being a professional, but it is tough.

On Aho's shorthanded goal: That was awesome. He worked his bag off for that one. Thought maybe he'd find me backdoor, but no. Took it himself and that's why he's such an elite player.

    Sebastian Aho

On the game: You obviously play to win hockey games and get points and obviously we got the job done, but it wasn't pretty. Definitely not the game we like to play in the long run. But having said that, I feel like we've had some games this year where I'm standing in front of you and going, 'Oh, we had our looks,' and 'We didn't get the bounces,' and all that. So definitely will take the two points and move on. But have to put this in the trash bin, well obviously we try to learn from everything.

On his shorthanded goal: Kind of lucky on that the first poke check. [David Pastrnak] kind of fumbled it a little bit and so I saw a loose puck. Happened to be on the right side of the puck battle, looked up and I had a lot of space there. Made my move and I'm happy to put that one in.

On almost running out of track before putting it in: True, but I don't know. Had such a sharp angle, so I didn't have much else. Kind of lucky how I had so much space to pull it and good thing I had the patience this time to put that one in.

On dealing with the trade deadline noise: I mean, at the end of the day, we have to do our job and that's to play hockey and win hockey games. But yeah, you're definitely aware of it. I guess that's all I want to say about that.

On the fact that he hasn't had to deal with it, but if it's been hard to see Mikko Rantanen dealing with all of it: I haven't gone through any rumors myself, but yeah. I care about him, care about this team, care about this organization, so whatever goes... we're all aware of what's being said. You hear all the noise and all of that stuff. But I just try to be there for him and pull the same rope here as a group and let all the other people do the talking.

On if he can't wait for the deadline to finally pass: I guess you could put it that way, yes.
