Last night, Columbus Blue Jackets forward Mathieu Olivier and Pittsburgh Penguins forward Boko Imama dropped the gloves in a heavyweight tilt at center ice.
The Blue Jackets were down 1-0 to the Penguins, and with eight minutes left in the first, Olivier sought out the fight against Imama to try and get his teammates more involved in the game.
The fight appeared to go Olivier's way, with most people thinking he won. However, the rest of the game didn’t play out as he would have expected after squaring off with a tough customer at center ice.
The Penguins rallied behind Imama's fight, scoring three goals in the first, while the Blue Jackets could only manage one. That set the tone for the rest of the night, as Pittsburgh handed Columbus their sixth straight loss at a time when they desperately need wins.
Unfortunately, Olivier's fight didn’t have the impact he had hoped for. Now, they need to regroup and try to end this losing streak as soon as possible if they want to keep their playoff dreams alive.
