The USHL has 295 alumni participating in the 2025 NCAA Division I Men’s Hockey Championship, which begins Thursday, March 27 and culminates with the Frozen Four Apr. 10 and 12 at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Mo.
With spots on every participating roster and an average of more than 18 players per team in the 16-seed bracket, USHL alumni have demonstrated the league’s development path puts prospective student-athletes in a position to develop and succeed.
Boston College, Michigan State and Western Michigan, three of the top four seeds, each have 22 or more players from the USHL.
Seven of the top 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, awarded to college’s hockey’s most outstanding player, and three of the top four finalists for the Mike Richter Award, awarded to the NCAA’s top goalie, played in the USHL. That gives the league more finalists than any junior league in the world.
More than 70 players across Division I college hockey were tabbed with all-conference honors.
Eight of the last 10 Hobey Baker winners played in the USHL, including each of the last five. USHL goalies have received more than half of the Mike Richter Awards since its inception in 2014.
Hobey Baker Award finalists participating in the tournament include Ryan Leonard (Boston College), Jimmy Snuggerud (Minnesota), Issac Howard (Michigan State), Jack Devine (Denver), Zeev Buium (Denver) and Alex Tracy (Minnesota State).
The only player in the NCAA tournament with a Clark Cup and NCAA title is Garrett Brown, who won a Clark Cup with Sioux City in 2022 and national championship with Denver in 2024.
There are more than 25 players across 11 schools with a Clark Cup championship.
Hampton Slukynsky (Western Michigan), Iiro Hakkarainen (Western Michigan) and Leo Gruba (Minnesota) won a Clark Cup with the Fargo Force in 2023-24. They’ll return to Scheels Arena for the Fargo Regional Thursday, March 27 and Saturday, March 29.
More than half of Division I players in 2024-25 played in the USHL, and 80% of players on current USHL rosters are committed to DI programs.
