William Nylander is staying off the market, signing an eight-year contract extension to stay with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday.

The club announced this deal, slated to kick in next season, is worth $11.5 million annually, making his contract the largest in franchise history in terms of total value at $92 million. The right winger is in the final campaign of a six-year contract worth about $6.96 million annually and would have been a UFA.

Nylander, 27, leads the Maple Leafs in scoring with 54 points in 37 games. His 21 goals rank second on the team behind Auston Matthews. He could crush his career-high 87 points from last season, currently on a 119-point pace.

Across nine seasons with Toronto, the Calgary, Alta., native with Swedish nationality has 198 goals and 286 assists for 484 points in 558 career regular-season NHL games. Nylander also has 17 goals and 23 assists for 40 points in 50 career playoff matches.

Nylander also ranks 56th in THN's list of the Top 100 People of Power & Influence in hockey.
