Washington Capitals defenseman Jakob Chychrun leads an interesting life and health regimen off the ice, but that doesn't include a light bulb-free home, as was claimed on Wednesday.
Chychrun appeared on the Grant & Danny Show on 106.7 The Fan on Wednesday, where he explained that he does, in fact, still use light bulbs in the house. However, after dinner, he and his wife take to turning the lights off.
"My wife and I are just big into living a clean, healthy life," Chychrun explained. "I told the boys the last few nights after dinner, we like to turn the lights off in the house and do no artificial light and just light some candles. It's been really nice, sleeping like a baby when I do that."
The 26-year-old had to clarify his stance after teammate Dylan Strome's appearance on the NHL Unscripted podcast, where he said Chychrun's "new thing" is using beeswax candles and no lightbulbs.
Since then, Chychrun said he's had to stay off his social media, as he's "a walking meme" following the comments.
"Stromer decided to go on a podcast last week and say I took every light bulb out of my house, and now people think I'm an absolute freak," Chychrun laughed.
That said, some of his habits do go off the beaten path. He spoke to The Hockey News earlier in the season about his interesting diet, which consists of raw food, animal heart and more.
Chychrun signed an eight-year, $72 million extension with Washington on Tuesday, as he's come to love the "characters" in the locker room. His teammates took to pranking him at morning skate, too, sticking a $100 bill on the back of his jersey and putting "72" on the front of his helmet.
