Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is set to return to the United States in the coming weeks, and per his agent, everything is going according to plan.
Ovechkin's agent Gleb Chistyakov told Sport-Express that Ovechkin will be back in D.C. in the first days of September, where he will get back on the ice and begin preparations for what will be his 21st NHL season.
"He will immediately start training. Everything will be as usual," Chistyakov said, per a DeepL translation.
The 39-year-old had a historic 20th season, where he overcame a broken leg and scored 44 goals to break Wayne Gretzky's all-time NHL goals record.
Ovechkin spent the first part of his offseason vacationing before returning to his home country of Russia, where he's taken part in numerous ceremonies, events and exhibitions in honor of passing Gretzky.
Several Capitals have already returned to D.C. to begin training for the season, with John Carlson, Sonny Milano, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Logan Thompson, Matt Roy and more already skating at MedStar Capitals Iceplex.
