Netminder Laurent Brossoit has signed a two-year deal with the Chicago Blackhawks for $6.6 million.
The 31-year-old is coming off a career-best season with a 15-5-2 record, a 2.00 goals against average and a .927 save percentage. His stellar play has earned him a pay raise up to $3.3 million AAV and possibly indicates his new status as the Blackhawks' starting goaltender.
Chicago will be Brossoit’s fourth NHL club after spending four seasons with the Oilers, where he kicked off his NHL career, then spending a brief two-year stint in Vegas where he won a Stanley Cup and finally most recently playing for the Jets on two occasions.
This will be the first starting opportunity for the Port Alberni product, as he will likely be in the depth chart alongside 32-year-old Petr Mrázek, who is coming off a down year with a 18-31-4 record and a 3.04 goals against average.
The replacement for Brossoit will be returning Jets goaltender Eric Comrie or Kaapo Kahkonen.
