Winnipeg Jets HC Scott Arniel has announced forward Nikolaj Ehlers will be out week-to-week.

The Jets did not state what Ehlers is specifically dealing with, but the injury occurred on Saturday when he collided with an official reaggravating the lower-body injury he was previously dealing with earlier this season. He had previously missed a pair of games after being hit by the puck twice but returned for two games.

“They just ran into each other. It was a tough play, especially to lose him on that situation,” Arniel said after the win. “It wasn't a blocked shot. ... It was a freak accident.”

The 2024-25 campaign has had its ups and downs for the 29-year-old. His offensive numbers have been great, scoring 24 goals and 63 points in 69 games. He's missed 13 total games, dealing with a couple of different injuries.

The newest ailment will mean he'll miss a fair bit of the playoffs, with the length still unknown. His absence will be felt greatly. Ehlers has been the Jets' best transition forward for quite some time. In very few minutes, he's able to impact the game due to his speed. He forces defenders to play cautiously, and routinely takes advantage of it.
