Emma Seitz discusses signing in the PHF, and introduces herself as a person and player to Metropolitan Riveters fans.
Emma Seitz is one of the best defenders coming out of NCAA hockey. The Yale graduate was a back-to-back Second Team All-American, and is the reigning back-to-back ECAC Defender of the Year. Like many of the women coming out of the NCAA, making hockey a career is a new opportunity, that until the PHF doubled its salary cap to $1.5 million this year, was not possible.
"It was a really exciting moment for me," said Seitz of signing her contract. "I do not consider myself some who saw a career in hockey for myself after college....I think the PHF has become a very legitimate top women's league this year, and I was able to be compensated in such a way that will allow me to play hockey full time."
Now, Seitz is set to join a deep Metropolitan Riveters roster featuring some of the best players in the game, and a number of elite NCAA graduates.
"I'm just really excited for the opportunity to keep getting better and keep playing hockey because that's something I take a lot of pride in," Seitz said.
Not only will Seitz be playing with top talent, she'll also be playing against tougher competition in the PHF, including some of her former teammates such as Claire Dalton, another Yale grad who recently signed with the PHF's Toronto Six.
"I'm definitely excited to play against some of my former teammates," said Seitz, who will also be teaming up with a former NCAA rival in Lexie Adzija.
"It goes the other way too...I've been battling it out with Lexie [Adzija] for the last five seasons. We played right across the street and now we're going to be teammates...it's nice that we have a good community of NCAA players who are matriculating into the PHF."
Seitz is excited to get started as a rookie in the PHF with the Metropolitan Riveters, and Riveters fans should be excited to watch one of the nation's most skilled offensive defenders in action.
