The new professional women's hockey league will form a Player Evaluation Advisory Committee to ensure the fair selection of players.
With information swirling about what players will be a part of the soon to be new professional women's hockey league, detail has emerged that a Player Evaluation Advisory Committee will be formed to complete a fair selection process of players.
"The new ownership group is committed to a fair selection process, and in support of that commitment, a Player Evaluation Advisory Committee will be created with balanced representation to ensure a thorough and fair assessment is in place which will allow this new league to feature the best players," wrote PHF commissioner Reagan Carey in a letter to players and staff.
PWHPA members have continuously touted any new league as a location for the best players in the world. In this situation, that will involve a true merger of players as both the PWHPA and PHF include players who are among the top 150 in the world.
In a 2022 Zoom call with players, Jayna Hefford, lead consultant for the PWHPA, stated that current PWHPA members will have no guarantee roster positions when it comes to a new league.
"We are building a league for the best players in the world...any player that comes from any other league, any other country, if they're good enough to make a team they'll make a team," Hefford said.
While 31 USA and Canadian national team members competed in the PWHPA last season, many of the best players outside that group play in the PHF, including many international stars from Sweden, Czechia, Finland, Austria, Switzerland, France, Germany, and other nations.
