PWHL New York defender Maja Nylen Persson will start the 2024-2025 season on loan to the SDHL's Brynas, the club where she's played her past six seasons.

Maja Nylen Persson signed a contract for the next three seasons with PWHL New York, but the Swedish star will open the season in her home country with her club, Brynas.
Nylen Persson will start the 2024-2025 hockey season in the SDHL playing for Brynas where the 23-year-old defender has won back-to-back-to-back Defender of the Year honors in Europe's top league. New York has loaned Nylen Persson to Brynas.
"We are of course very satisfied and happy to have Maja stay a little longer before she goes over," said Brynas general manager Erika Grahm in a translated news release. "Everyone knows her qualities and she will be a useful player and person for the team but also a good role model for our younger players."
Nylen Persson will help fill an early gap left by veteran blueliner Josefine Jakobsen who continues to rehab from an injury.
Nylen Persson was the 10th overall pick in the 2024 PWHL Draft. Last season she recorded 38 points in 36 games with Brynas and added three assists in five games representing Sweden at the IIHF World Championships.
"I am very happy and grateful that this opportunity arose so that I can prepare in the best way for my upcoming adventure," Nylen Persson said. "Then of course I love playing in Brynäs and to be able to do it for a little while longer I will just enjoy. I will do everything for this team and try to help them get the best possible start to the season!"
