Jayna Hefford discusses the league's look into neck guards, team medical staff, and the league's hiring of Dr. Tina Atkinson as Chief Medical Officer.
Jayna Hefford discusses the possibility of neck guards being a requirement in the PWHL, and also explains some of the league's plans to ensure player safety.
While neck guards are in discussion for the league, the PWHL will have many on-site protections for players throughout the season.
Those include each team having a team doctor, two athletic trainers, and a massage therapist on staff.
The league will also mandate having an ambulance on-site for games.
To guide these discussions, the PWHL has hired Dr. Tina Atkinson as the league's Chief Medical Officer. Atkinson has served as Canada's national team doctor for the past seven years, and also holds the role of Chief Medical Officer with Hockey Nova Scotia.
