The PWHPA votes July 2 on whether or not to ratify a proposed collective bargaining agreement.
The PWHPA is set to vote on their collective bargaining agreement, which will be used moving forward in the new professional women's hockey league. While a CBA vote will occur, there's also speculation that no formal union has been formed.
The league will be a product of the acquisition of the PHF, alongside members of the PWHPA. The league will be funded by owner Mark Walter, and is being created in partnership with Billie Jean King Enterprises.
As reported, the vote to ratify a CBA will not include the former members of the PHF, who were not part of the bargaining group.
Despite the vote to ratify the CBA, it appears the group may still be a few steps away from having a formal union to protect players. Despite reports from media, and claims from PWHPA lead Jayna Hefford, no record of unionization has appeared with the US Department of Labor records, as Erin Brown of The Hockey News first reported.
Brown went on to explain that in the United States, unions must file "constitution and bylaws; listing of elected board members; yearly financial statements" with the Department of Labor.
The PWHPA denied requests from The Hockey News related to information regarding where or if union papers were filed.
The PWHPA was established as a 501(c)(6) nonprofit in the state of Pennsylvania in May, 2019.
