Trade Targets: A Look At The PWHL's Potential Trade Targets,

Today was supposed to be the PWHL's trade deadline. That date was shifted to March 13, potentially to allow more time for plans related to expansion. The shift will also allow more time for European free agents to join the league.

As well, the move gives PWHL teams more time to assess their rosters and plan for the future. Here's a look at who could be on the move for each PWHL team, and each team's needs heading toward the deadline.

    Boston Fleet

Boston doesn't need much heading to the trade deadline. They'll get Hannah Bilka back from LTIR at some point, which will be a gift heading to the playoffs. If there's anything they need, it's to solve their backup goaltender position, and perhaps depth scoring.
Trade Targets: Boston's use of rookie defender Daniela Pejsova has been confusing, including making her a recent healthy scratch. They traded up for Pejsova at the draft, but have not given her a full opportunity to succeed. It's reminiscent of the way Sophie Jaques was utilized prior to Boston trading her. Pejsova is on a three year deal and if Boston wants to make a significant splash, there would be teams chomping at the bit to add Pejsova.

    Minnesota Frost

The Frost's goaltending has been subpar, but there's not much that can be done on the market to solve that issue aside from trading for an upgrade to their third goaltender position, which may be wise for Minnesota. The team could look to shake up their secondary scoring as well, as their top line has carried the team this season.
Trade Targets: Minnesota's Czech players might be targets teams look at. Denisa Krizova has the opportunity to play higher up a lineup in a different market. There are teams who would covet her offensive upside. Minnesota went high on Klara Hymlarova in the third round of the draft, but haven't utilized their pick. If they're looking to make a change to their depth scoring, Hymlarova could be a piece they move.

    Montreal Victoire

Montreal's roster looks strong top to bottom. It would not be surprising to see Daniele Sauvageau make a minor depth more to add to their forward group. With Dominika Laskova back, Montreal now has eight defenders on their full time roster. They could deploy Laskova as a depth forward for versatility, and when Alexandra Labelle returns, they'll get a boost, but their forward depth could be exposed in the postseason.
Trade Targets: If Montreal wants a forward, they may need to give up a blueliner. Laskova could be a target, but teams will want to see what she can do. Otherwise, Anna Kjellbin and Amanda Boulier are likely candidates. If they need to move a depth forward as part of a deal, rookie Dara Greig could use a fresh opportunity.

    New York Sirens

New York has no secondary scoring. Without support for the top line of Sarah Fillier, Alex Carpenter, and Jessie Eldridge on the scoresheet, it's hard to see this team getting over the hump. New York has a wealth of depth forwards who can play roles, but they haven't been able to convert. New York has no wiggle room with only a single reserve in the pool.
Trade Targets: You name them, and they are probably available. Abby Roque could be a big name player the team looks to move, but her contract will be financially restrictive for any team in the league unless expansion occurs. You could point at Jade Downie-Landry, Noora Tulus, Chloe Aurard, or Elizabeth Giguere and see a trade target. Each has potential. Tulus has the most value of the bunch as she has top six potential.

    Ottawa Charge

If Ottawa gets Katerina Mrazova and Rebecca Leslie back, their roster looks playoff ready. Mrazova has had significant challenges staying healthy in the PWHL. If she's going to be out long term, Ottawa needs scoring help, but they don't have a lot to give. Last year Ottawa made a trade sending Amanda Boulier to Montreal for Tereza Vanisova to address their forward needs, but a quick injury after sunk their blueline depth...and their season. The best moves Ottawa could make are internal structure finding ways to better deploy Danielle Serdachny and Anna Meixner.
Trade Targets: Ottawa already made a major move this year. Victoria Bach could be flipped again, but it's not likely. If Ottawa does make a move, it's likely it will be minor involving a player like Meixner, Zoe Boyd, or Natalie Snodgrass.

    Toronto Sceptres

If Toronto foresees the return of Sarah Nurse, they'll need to make a roster move. Kaitlin Willoughby is the likely cut, but Toronto could choose to make a change instead. The area of need for the Sceptres is a seventh defender. They have Lauren Bernard in waiting as a reserve, but the fact the team moved her there at all signals they aren't fully confident in Bernard.
Trade Targets: Toronto could choose to flip a depth forward like Maggie Connors or Noemi Neubauerova for defensive depth. It's the only area where an injury could significantly impact Toronto's playoff hopes. They definitely have enough forward depth to acquire a blueliner.
