The PWHPA has officially voted to ratify their collective bargaining agreement prior to the launch of a new league in January.

The vote began Thursday, and was finalized today. The CBA will be in effect for eight years, expiring in 2031.

Last week, an acquisition was announced by Mark Walter Group and Billie Jean King Enterprises of the PHF. The move set into motion an amalgamation of player pools from the PWHPA and PHF into a singular league. Although PHF members were not able to vote on the new CBA, any member of the PHF who joins the new league will also be protected by the CBA and welcomed into the PWHLPA's union.

While initial requests for information regarding a formal union, and union filings with the US Department of Labor were denied by the PWHPA, The Athletic's Hailey Salvian reported that the PWHLPA union received voluntary recognition from ownership, and therefore did not need to go through the National Labor Relations Board.

The new professional women's hockey league is slated to hit the ice in January 2024.
