The Condors' arena will have a new name starting in March.
Same old place with a fresh coat of paint.
The Edmonton Oilers’ AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors, announced the new naming rights for their arena on Thursday.
Formerly known as Mechanics Bank Arena, the arena, theater, and convention center complex will be known as Dignity Health Arena beginning in mid-March.
Originally opened in 1998 as Centennial Gardens, the newly-renamed arena has been the home of the Condors since their days in the ECHL. The 8,751-seat arena was then known as Rabobank Arena from 2005 to 2019 before becoming Mechanics Bank Arena for the 2019-20 season.
Founded in 1995 as the Bakersfield Fog, the then-West Coast Hockey League franchise changed their name to the Condors when they moved into Centennial Gardens. They kept the name as the WCHL was folded into the ECHL in 2003, and the name was carried over to the current AHL team as part of that league’s realignment in 2015.

The Condors replaced the Oklahoma City Barons as the Oilers’ affiliate, while the ECHL Condors took up the mantle of the Norfolk Admirals, formerly of the AHL. Such is life in the minor leagues.
Dignity Health Arena also houses the Kern County Sports Hall of Fame, which includes inductees such as NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick and Philadelphia Phillies great Johnny Callison.
